Family Fun Friday: Advent and all the Trimmings

Let me tell you the tale of our 2015  ADVENTure...so far...as it is about half way over.  It always starts with hopes that are a little too high this year was no exception.  I am participating in InstaAdvent  and Thriving Family Advent readings with the girls.  We are very behind in the readings as there have a been a few too many late night activities and not enough family time.  Right after Thanksgiving I was sick with a horrible cough and I was "this" close to calling the doctor because I hadn't had full nights sleep for almost a week.  I managed to keep up with the pictures so here is a recap.

WREATH

I made this for my 2s and 3s Sunday School class last year.  I almost forgot all about it until I looked through the SS closet.  I think I got the idea from Pinterest.

FRIENDSHIP

This is when I was too sick to hang out with actual friends so Friends the TV show was in order plus a few more helpful non-people friends- cough drops, tissues, soup, slippers, tea and our quilt.

GENEROSITY

Ariana had an idea for being generous with her sisters to help clean the kitchen.  So thankful for my girls this Advent season as they patiently waited for me feel better.

FAVE CHRISTMAS SONG

I have MANY favorite Christmas songs but I was able to pick up this book....

which is basically a Christmas hymn type book.  I have been excited to read it just haven't had much time. But here are my top 5 Christmas songs in no particular order:

"O Holy Night"

"What Child is This"

"O Come O Come Emmanuel"

"Ave Maria"

"Real"

Before I was coughing up a lung we did try to have a calendar to map out all our activities leading up to Christmas.  It is a much too busy time of year for me so I cancelled our homeschool for the month.  Shhh- I haven't bought a single Christmas present...not...a ....single.....one....*shrugs*  this is my beautiful crazy life.

WAITING

Instead of the Christmas chain, this year I am putting the days till Christmas on a chalkboard that hangs up in the kitchen.  Not fancy but it does the job.  Kids love anticipation and so do I!  Though it can be a little stressful watching it go by so fast.

SEASONAL SPORTS- or what I like to call Mom's Marathon Decorate and Clean Up

Our house was a disaster.  This is what it really looked like getting all the Christmas stuff out.  The sun blocks the mess that is trash ALL over the floor.  Thank goodness our church had a Christmas party that night so I didn't have to worry too much about making dinner.  I had the added pressure of trying to get this done before Lucy's birthday.  Here are some pictures from the parties:

Since this party is a Scottish Auction I went home with a big container of mixed nuts and my husband got a fleece blanket which I quickly stole.

Lucy's 4th birthday was great- tree decorating, pizza, ice cream cake-AND my house was the most clean it has been in I don't know how long.  She got cute Frozen stuff- little dolls, bowling set, Apple Bloom stuffed pony, and coloring books etc.  I still have a ton of stuff to write about but I am going to have stop for now and just let you get to know Lucy.  Happy Christmas to you till I write again God willing at least one more entry before Christmas.
