Thankful Thursday Geek-Style
One Thing in the Sky: The Enterprise
I have recently started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. I had never seen a full episode from beginning to end before now. I always thought it was boring, slow, and really weird. It still is all those things, but I am SLOWLY learning to appreciate it for what it is- a show about exploring, adventure, aliens, and unknown/imagined space. My oldest daughter gives great commentary during the boring bits. The thing I find the most annoying about this show, especially in the first 3-5 episodes, was what seems like a complete lack of reaction or emotions from the actors/characters to situations I would "think" should illicit surprise or more concern or anxiety. The trial with Q in the first episode was just so confusing. They sort of cared but didn't seem to worry- is it because technology is so advanced that they are now so confident about their survival? I don't know, but it just felt so OFF. It wasn't until Episode 7 "Justice" that I felt appropriate emotional response was shown and I started enjoying it- at least a little. So thank you, Starship Enterprise, for taking me into the final frontier.
One Thing from Your Memory:
I have two Star Trek memories. My parents, pretty much, never exposed me to fantasy in movies, television, or literature. Maybe you are thinking- oh poor you!- but, seriously, for the most part I am and was not a big fantasy fan. I am still in learning to appreciate it mode. There was a girl in high school who asked me if I was into fantasy and I thought she meant "living in your head" not dragons, wizards, sorcery, space, planets, aliens etc. So I said, yes, I love fantasy. I was very confused as to what the genre of fantasy and science fiction really entailed. But I did have a Sunday school teacher who loved Star Trek. After Bible Drill practice at her house if your parent was late to pick you up you watched Star Trek- again- it was so boring to me that I just could barely watch it without wondering off in my own thoughts. But I also have a vague memory of pretending to be Geordi LaForge (because you know, he is the Reading Rainbow guy) by putting those weird looking 80s banana clips over my eyes. Good times!
One Thing that is Ugly Beautiful:
Lieutenant Worf and Klingon Culture- yes, I am really getting into this. I especially enjoyed the "sex" scene with the female Klingon.
Star Trek the gift that keeps on giving. I have to give Season One back the library soon because someone else has it on hold- grrr! so I don't know when I will be able to watch it again but it has been fun while it lasted.

Blog Schedule
I don't have as much time on the computer lately mostly because we use it for homeschool and my children are reaching the age of figuring out computer games and we don't have the current funds to buy a separate computer or tablet for everyone so mommy is learning to share and be thankful that have so much time to be home and teach and learn along side of them.
My plans for this blog are sort of laid back as I have house in need of constant cleaning and children to train but here is the hope:
Movie Mondays: I will review movies- simple right?
Teach Me/TV Tuesdays: I will show off my nerdy crafting side and every other week review the TV shows I am watching.
Wonder Women/ Worth Reading Wednesdays: I would like to focus on a woman or possibly multiple women that I have been learning about during the week. She could be fictional, she could be real, she could be from a comic book, she could be from history etc.... I thought this went nicely with the worth reading because I will be mostly reading about women this year.
Throwback/Threads/Thankful Thursday: This one was a little tough. I thought it would be fun to put together some fun 80s/90s things that I would like to relive. Plus I LOVE costumes so maybe putting some costumes or cos-play stuff would be fun. I still love doing thankful Thursday and putting a little geeky twist on it would be fun or we will see if it is even possible.
Fandom Fashion/Family Festivities Fridays: Once I am able to subscribe to the Fandom of the Month, which will not be till after Easter (ish), I will review the products with some kind of new outfit or what the certain fandom means to me. Fridays might also be general update on family.
Celebration Saturday: Gaming and nerdy, geeky party reviews...I think...we will see how it plays out.
Super Hero/Silly Sunday: I hope to keep this light and just some fun memes or quotes I have found throughout the week.
A lot of this will not be regular especially not till after Easter because I plan to take Lent very seriously this year, but I look forward to this in the next few weeks or it may take longer- just not sure. Any way- happy geeking it out.

New Year...New Focus...Mighty, Geeky, Nerdy
I had a great year of homemaking didn't get half the things I wanted to done...but that is totally okay and I am totally okay with it. Especially since the new fun is beginning....2016
We will be MIGHTY.
The plan is to read as many books about empowering girls and women. I am following A Mighty Girl 's Facebook and Blog site. I am aware that this is almost a total 180 from last year because this site has a some what feminist agenda, but I am also aware that girls can and should have career options. It is not a matter of life or death to me if that career happens to be more feminine or if it happens to be homemaking. I think it will be fun to learn about all the women who had to step out of the norm to progress our world whether it be through inventions, scientific discoveries, political action, or conservation.
We will be GEEKY.
We might have already been this to a degree. We love super heroes, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and my husband loves comic books. I would like to share the interest. I am more of a literature nerd than a geek but I would really like to take a peek into that world and actually read a comic book and some sci-fi and see what happens. Plus I have NEVER seen an episode of Star Trek and barely sat through the Doctor Who episodes I had access to at one point. We will see what I learn...and from some of the experience I have had with the geeky is...find new things to complain about. I have to say that is the one thing I am NOT looking forward to in this experiment.
We will be NERDY.
I associate nerdy with a more specific knowledge especially when it comes to literature, computers, math, science, and technology. I don't have an exact plan for this...I thought I might find some free classes or put together a Church History Curriculum (not exactly the most nerdy thing, but I guess I am running out of ideas).... Any way, I love learning and it might be fun to refresh my math knowledge.
